Introduction
A thesis, or dissertation (abbreviated diss. ), is a document that presents the author’s study and findings in support of a candidature for an academic degree or professional qualification. In some cases, the term “thesis” or a cognate is used to refer to a portion of a bachelor’s or master’s degree programme, whereas “dissertation” refers to a doctoral programme. In American English, this is the standard arrangement. In other situations, such as inside most UK and Republic of Ireland institutions, the opposite is true. Both master’s thesis and doctoral dissertations are commonly referred to as graduate thesis.
The word “thesis” derives from the Greek word “thesis,” which means “something put out,” and refers to a logical argument. The word “dissertation” comes from the Latin word dissertti, which means “debate.” The term thesis was coined by Aristotle, who was the first philosopher to describe it.
“A ‘thesis’ is a presumption of some prominent philosopher that differs from popular opinion; for it would be stupid to pay attention when any ordinary person offers views opposite to men’s customary opinions.”
A thesis, according to Aristotle, is a proposition that is made in opposition to popular belief or expresses disagreement with other philosophers. A assumption is a statement or view that could be accurate or false depending on the evidence and/or proof presented. The dissertation’s goal is to lay forth the evidence for why the author disagrees with other philosophers or the common consensus.
Workshop
A one-day workshop on Thesis Writing was conducted by INSTITUTE OF PSYCHOSPIRITUAL THERAPY COUNSELLING AND RESEARCH on 2nd June, 2021 . The webinar was attended by 100+ participants. All the participants were trained under the guidance of Mr. Bharat Kumar (Trainer, Director).
